The nasolabial folds are the creases running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. They are a normal part of facial anatomy that deepens with time as the midface loses volume. Dermal filler placed along or above the fold can soften how deep it looks.
A good result here is a softer fold, not an erased one: these creases move with your smile, and a face with none at all reads as unnatural. Sometimes the better plan treats the cheek above rather than the fold itself, which is a judgment call your provider makes in person.
The honest limits of this preview
Folds are softened, not erased. Smiling naturally creases this area, and the preview keeps that honest. Not offered by every practice. A preview can't see skin quality, underlying anatomy or anything beneath the surface. Only an in-person consultation can. Treat it as a conversation starter for your provider, never as a promised result.
Worth asking your provider
- Would you treat the fold directly or restore cheek volume above it first?
- How much softening is realistic for my folds without looking puffy?
- How long does filler in this area typically last?
